About Iberia Express and Reasons for flight Delays and Cancellations

Iberia is the flag carrier airline of Spain and was founded in 1927. Based in Madrid, it operates an international network of services from its main base of Madrid-Barajas Airport. It is the largest Spanish airline with more than 100 destinations worldwide and is also considered as one of the cheapest airlines to travel with. In 2007, Stiftung Warentest tested low-cost airlines, among other things, on service delivery, service quality and customer satisfaction. Iberia obtained an average rating and because service delivery and quality is put to test, flight delays and cancellations are also considered. There are various reasons as to why a flight can either be delayed or cancelled. They include illness of one or more number of crew members, technical defects, unavailability of an aircraft, Bird strikes and storms.

According to the European Passenger Traffic Regulations, Passengers are entitled to compensation if their flight is either delayed or cancelled. In the event of a flight cancellation where a passenger is informed with more than 14 days before scheduled departure date, the corresponding airline must make provision for a replacement flight and the passenger can decide if he/she is willing to accept the offer or ask for a refund. But in a situation where a flight is cancelled with very short notice (less than 14 days), Passengers are entitled to additional monetary compensation. Compensations are also paid for flight delays as well but a flight must have been delayed for at least 3 hours before compensation claims can be laid and amount payable is solely dependent on the flight distance and not the ticket price. It must be noted however that Airlines are not held responsible for flight delays and cancellations that is as a result of exceptional circumstances such as Bird strikes and storms
